About the Role
At Sava, we are looking for a passionate synthetic chemist to join the Scientific Research and Development Team and aid in the synthesis and characterisation of novel organometallic polymers. These polymers are the basis of the functional network that generate the signal in SAVA’s biosensor platform. The ideal candidate will have a strong competency in the synthesis, modification, and characterisation of organic compounds and organometallic compounds. Knowledge and experience of biosensors would be advantageous.
Requirements
Responsibilities:
Work with the Principal Chemist to design and synthesise organometallic polymer materials for our biosensors to be trialled in clinical studies.
Develop and carry out quality control protocols for synthesised ligand, metal complex and polymer batches.
Run routine analysis on starting materials and products using a range of techniques, including HPLC, NMR, UV-vis, IR spectroscopies.
Based on bench top results, work with the chemistry team to optimize performance in an electrochemical biosensor.
Optimise formulations of polymer and enzyme to maximise sensor performance.
Planning and managing the work packages to progress projects towards the company objectives in a timely manner.
Collaboration with process and chemistry teams, project leaders and external partners.
Generating, analysing and reporting data to the team clearly and precisely.
Maintaining detailed and up to date records of experiments and data analysis.
Identify and research new equipment to support critical research areas.
Past experience:
A PhD or Master's Degree in a relevant scientific discipline (e.g. Chemistry, Material Science), focusing on organic or organometallic synthesis.
If Masters level only, an additional ≥ 2 years post-graduate experience working in an industrial setting with organic or organometallic synthesis.
Requirements:
Experience carrying out synthesis and derivatisation of organic molecules and organometallic complexes using air- and moisture-free techniques.
Proficiency in the use and interpretation of analytical methods for chemical characterisation, such as (but not limited to): NMR, FTIR, and UV-visible spectroscopies, elemental analysis, HPLC.
Experience of reaction optimisation through design of experiments (DoE). Highly capable in designing and troubleshooting experiments with close attention to detail.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced work environment.
Ability to clearly translate and communicate complex technical information to both technical experts and non-specialists.
Excellent organizational skills and the ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously.
Preferred:
Experience testing electrochemical biosensors.
Synthesis and knowledge of hydrogel materials.
Experience working with organometallic polymer materials for use in biosensors.
